13th Couldn’t Save SonyLIV’s Silent October 2025

Hey peeps! We’re back again with our monthly reports on the prominent OTT platforms operating in India. This edition sheds light on how SonyLIV performed in October 2025. Without further delay, let’s hop right into it.

Like in September, SonyLIV remained mostly quiet in October this year as well, except for the release of its original series 13th: Some Lessons Aren’t Taught in Classrooms. Inspired by the life and teachings of educator Mohit Tyagi (MT Sir), this drama series focuses on the journey of a successful venture capitalist, Ritesh, who leaves his corporate job to help his former IIT-JEE mentor, MT Sir, build a visionary ed-tech startup.

The series, overall, received a lukewarm response from both critics and SonyLIV users. The performances of the lead actors, Gagan Dev Riar (as MT Sir) and Paresh Pahuja (as Ritesh), were among the few highlights, as they were sincere and kept the show grounded. In addition, many viewers appreciated it as a simple, honest, and heartfelt portrayal of mentorship and life lessons.

However, the biggest issue with 13th turned out to be its bland and rushed writing. Many viewers also felt that the series often treated complex topics, such as the startup world, venture capital, and the pressures of the education system, too superficially, missing opportunities for deeper social commentary.

Supporting characters remained underdeveloped, and the protagonist, Ritesh, occasionally came across as too theatrical or one-dimensional.

Apart from 13th, SonyLIV users also got Mirage (licensed), helmed by Jeetu Joseph and starring Asif Ali and Aparna Balamurali. Unlike the director’s previous works, such as Drishyam, the film was heavily criticised for being an underwhelming and overstuffed thriller. Its plot was considered wafer-thin, relying too heavily on forced twists.

Moreover, the first half is often dull or slow, while the second half is overloaded with rushed revelations. Many critics felt the film was poorly paced overall.

Other than 13th and Mirage, SonyLIV users didn’t get much new content in October, apart from titles from other Sony channels under its umbrella. Overall, October 2025 turned out to be another disappointing month for the streamer. Stay tuned for more updates.
