Piracy is one of the most dreaded enemies of the Indian entertainment industry. You see, content, boycott calls and so many factors are definitely plaguing the industry, but piracy is one of the most important diseases that need an immediate cure.
You see, piracy can’t really be cured. It can only be controlled. As long as there is free access to the internet, (by free internet we mean free access not free of telecom charges), there will be piracy and it is impossible to stop it.
But, the poor laws in India are totally incapable of curbing that.
Just take the case of last year. The Indian entertainment industry lost about ₹22,400 crores to piracy.
And why not?
More than half of people turn to piracy to watch films and series. The condition is worse for streaming platforms as they are 63% victims of the entire piracy web.
The survey showed that piracy is more prevalent in tier 2 cities than in tier 1 cities. More importantly, it is due to the high price of subscriptions or even due to the unavailability of certain films/series in India.
This is a serious issue by all means and the people in authority must take severe actions against those agents who facilitate piracy.
