After a Big Start, SonyLIV Goes Silent in Feb 2026

After starting 2026 with a massive hit like Freedom at Midnight Season 2, SonyLIV looked like it was back on top. That show didn’t just get views. It reminded everyone that this platform is the place for smart, high-quality drama.

But fast forward to February, and that excitement has hit a bit of a wall. For a service that has to fight off giants like Netflix and JioHotstar, going a whole month without a single Original series or movie feels like a big letdown.

The Feb 2026 lineup isn’t bad, but it definitely feels like a library update rather than a big event. Instead of fresh, exclusive content, we got three licensed titles.

First was Baby Girl (2026, Malayalam), a decent thriller, but it already had its run in theatres. It’s a “nice to have” title for people who missed it, but it’s not something people are rushing to subscribe to. This Nivin Pauly starrer didn’t do well in theatres and has received a mediocre response from viewers.

Varudu Kaavalenu was a standard Telugu rom-com. It’s light and easy to watch, but it’s definitely not must-see TV. And then we have Fatso, led by Gul Panag. It was a box office dud, and no one remembers it now.

SonyLIV’s whole brand is built on being the boutique platform, the place where you go for shows like Scam 1992 or Gullak. They usually pick quality over quantity.

The problem is, when you go well over 28 days without a SonyLIV Original badge on a new title, people start to look elsewhere. In a world where there’s something new to watch every single day on other apps, staying quiet for a month is a risky move. It breaks the habit of fans who were just getting back into the platform after the January rush.

Word on the street is that March might be better for SonyLIV, with Jazz City and new seasons of reality shows like Shark Tank India potentially on the way. Let’s hope for the best.
