Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the entertainment industry. It is helping viewers discover content to assisting creators in making films and shows. Now, India’s largest streaming platform, JioHotstar, is making one of its biggest AI bets yet.
The company has announced plans to hire more than 75 professionals for a newly created AI division. At first glance, the announcement may look like another tech hiring drive. But the bigger story lies in what JioHotstar is trying to achieve with artificial intelligence.
Traditionally, creating a film or series follows a step-by-step process. Writers develop a script, production teams shoot scenes, editors work on the footage, and post-production begins only after filming is completed. Each stage depends on the previous one, making content creation a lengthy and expensive process.
JioHotstar believes AI can change that model.
The company recently revealed that its AI-generated series, “Mahabharat: Ek Dharmayudh,” was completed three to five times faster than a conventional production. Although it was absolutely unwatchable. According to JioHotstar, this was possible because different stages of the creative process, including ideation, visual generation and post-production, were carried out simultaneously instead of one after another.
This represents a major shift in how content is produced. Rather than treating AI as a tool that supports existing workflows, JioHotstar is attempting to build production systems around AI from the ground up.
The company’s hiring plans reflect that vision. Alongside technical roles, it is recruiting for positions with unusual titles such as Visionscaper, Soundscaper, Creative Technologist and Narrative Storytelling Lead. The mix suggests that the company wants technology and creativity to work together within the same team rather than as separate functions.
For streaming platforms, speed has become increasingly important as audiences demand a constant flow of fresh content. If AI can help reduce production timelines while maintaining quality, it could reshape how shows and films are developed in the years ahead.
