Can Anurag Kashyap’s Paanch Perform Better on OTT?

Would you believe that the same Anurag Kashyap who made Gangs of Wasseypur was a writer for the hit TV show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi?

And he even paid tribute to the show in the opening scene of Gangs of Wassyepur 1!

Kashyap is by far one of the most influential Indian filmmakers of this decade. With films like Gangs of Wassyefpur, Gulaal, and No Smoking, his stories have always seemed to change the audience in some way.

What makes Kashyap’s cinema stand out from the rest is his unapologetic style of storytelling. He doesn’t shy away from showing the harsh politics of today–nothing is sugarcoated.

Fans of Kashyap would be thrilled to hear that his debut directorial project, Paanch, is finally hitting the big screens. The film was made in 2003, but couldn’t make it to theatres after the Central Board of Film Certification raised objections. Tutu Sharma, the producer of the film, recently confirmed that the film is set to release sometime in the next six months. With these plans, the film is simultaneously being restored as the quality of the reels has deteriorated.

Kashyap’s films haven’t always done well in the theatres, making fans question- will Paanch do well in the theatres or is it better to stick to an OTT release?

Over the past years, Kashyap’s fanbase has increased widely. His craft has finally gotten a spotlight, with films like Kennedy being screened at film festivals.

Paanch has the potential to make more through OTT definitely, but its box office collection wouldn’t underperform. After the success of Gangs of Wasseypur 1 and 2, the fans are waiting to go to the theatres and experience the ‘Kashyap-esque’ style of storytelling on the big screen.

Despite what platform or medium we get to view the film on, being an Anurag Kashyap film, fans are sure that the experience is going to be extraordinary.
