There was a time when Disney+Hotstar used to rule the Indian OTT space. It used to have the highest number of subscribers on the Indian OTT. The platform known for cricket and big films had more subscribers than all other streaming platforms put together. But, things changed.
You see, our second sentence is still very true. Disney+Hotstar still has the highest number of subscribers. However, it does not rule the Indian OTT space anymore. It is struggling and has lost about 2% of its value from the last quarter.
But when we see the latest quarter then we realise that Disney+Hotstar is maintaining a steady position with about 25% control over the market of Indian OTT.
The most fierce competition is from Prime Video which has about 23% of the market share. Netflix India happens to be the third most powerful entity with 13% of the market.
Then comes the chance of Zee5, SonyLIV, AppleTV and more. The more includes JioCinema too. The data is coming from JustWatch which is a kind of reliable third-party website.
The bottom line is the fact that Disney+Hotstar even at its low is the most powerful OTT platform in India and perhaps that’s the reason Reliance would wanna erase the existence of JioCinema for Hotstar. Anyway, let’s see what happens.
