It looks like OTT platforms are taking the place of TV channels by live streaming them from their OTT platforms.
It is a very known phenomenon now that TV Channels are coming under OTT platforms and users are consuming the media from the OTT platforms.
That’s why Tata Sky and Dish TV are likely to approach the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to urge an intervention and prevent OTT platforms from streaming live TV channels.
It is noticed that OTT platforms are slowly removing the TV channel tradition.
The DTH sector has lost 7.6 million subscribers in the last three years, and if we put a keen notice OTT platforms have risen exponentially in the last 3 years.
Tata Play has a 32.53% market share of total net pay active subscribers, followed by Airtel with 28.45%, Dish TV India at 20.46%, and Sun Direct with 18.57% as of March 31, 2024.
The system is noticing a very drastic decrease in subscribers during ICC Men’s cricket match and many more events like this and at the end of December 31, they saw a decline of 63.52 million from 64.
It is very visible that OTT platforms are gobbling up the the TV channel viewership.
