From Theatres to OTT, Kannappa Can’t Find Redemption

Kannappa had its OTT premiere on Prime Video on September 4. Many believed the OTT release of this Vishnu Manchu starrer might neutralise the damage caused by its disastrous theatrical run, which earned just INR 46 crores against a massive INR 200-crore budget. But that’s clearly not the case right now!

So far, Manchu’s epic devotional drama has received mostly harsh criticism from viewers, with many calling it a complete waste of time. Despite its star-studded cast, Kannappa falters due to poor execution. The most common complaints are its sluggish pacing, weak screenplay, and underdeveloped characters. To make matters worse, the first half feels bloated and unengaging.

Adding to the disappointment, viewers have been quick to slam the movie’s low-quality, poorly executed VFX.

That said, a few have praised the climax and Prabhas’s special cameo as Rudra, calling them the only redeeming aspects of the film. But unfortunately, Prabhas shows up far too late to save the experience.

Meanwhile, Vishnu Manchu’s own performance is being shredded by viewers, with many labeling it “soulless” and “horrible.”

The criticism doesn’t stop there. Fans are also frustrated at how the film underutilises big names like Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal, Kajal Aggarwal, R. Sarathkumar, and others.

Overall, Kannappa’s reception on Prime Video looks disappointing. Making matters worse, its position on the platform’s trending list doesn’t inspire much confidence. While Maalik (released August 22) still holds the #1 spot, Kannappa is stuck at #2.

And with Rajinikanth’s Coolie (September 11), Do You Wanna Partner (September 12), and Gen V Season 2 (September 17) lined up for release, each already riding strong online buzz, Kannappa risks being completely overshadowed. It’s safe to say the film will likely flop on OTT as well. Stay tuned for more updates.
