IPL 2026: JioHotstar Hindi Commentary Falls to New Lows

While the runs are flying off the bats of players like bullets in the ongoing IPL 2026, so too has the speed of growing criticism and backlash towards the deteriorating quality of Hindi commentary on JioHotstar increased among cricket lovers in India.

Back when JioHotstar entered the OTT market and promised a revolution in sports broadcasting, no one knew that they would do it by sacrificing the quality of commentary at the altar of cringeworthy entertainment.

What was once a source of tactical insight has, in the eyes of many, devolved into a cacophony of scripted rhymes, forced enthusiasm, and blatant bias.

The loudest criticism is directed at the streamer’s Hindi commentary feed, which has moved away from traditional analysis toward a “watch-along” format. Leading the charge of fan frustration is the polarising style of the “so-called” commentators like Aakash Chopra, Harbhajan Singh, and Virender Sehwag.

Chopra’s rhyming schemes are just as cringe and painful to hear as the “great old tales of their past or prime” by Singh and Sehwag. At this point, it’s safe to say that these guys rely too heavily on their pre-planned puns or their “signature” dialogues.

And the worst part? They literally don’t know how to hype iconic moments with energy and grace. Plus, they should gather some more knowledge and information about players who aren’t that popular or are new.

Wait, that’s not the worst part! Sorry, folks! Our bad! The worst part is that these guys don’t even know how to take criticism. And their attitude? Well, look at the following tweets to know more about it.

Fans on platforms like X and Reddit have labelled the feed as “toxic” and “arrogant,” specifically citing a lack of neutrality.

On the other hand, while the English feed maintains a level of professional decorum, the Hindi feed treats the sport like a variety talk show.

Interestingly, this backlash is driving a unique trend: the rise of regional commentary.

Frustrated by the “gimmickry” of the Hindi feed, viewers are flocking to Tamil, Telugu, and even Bhojpuri streams. Fans report that these regional panels, featuring the likes of R. Ashwin (making his debut this year), S. Badrinath, and RJ Balaji, offer a better balance of humour and genuine cricketing intelligence.

As the IPL 2026 season progresses, the message from the fans is clear: they don’t want a circus; they want the game and the critical analysis that comes with it. Whether JioHotstar will pivot back to technical depth or double down on cringe remains the biggest off-field story of the season. Stay tuned for more updates.
