Jazz City is an upcoming Bengali historical thriller that will stream on Sony LIV from March 19. The series was first planned for a February 6 release, but the date was later postponed. The makers recently confirmed the new premiere date on social media.
Set in 1971 Kolkata during the Bangladesh Liberation War, the story blends political tension with the city’s lively jazz culture. The plot follows a hustler with a hidden past who finds himself pulled into a dangerous world of spies, power games, and betrayal. Much of the action unfolds inside smoky jazz clubs where revolutionaries, artists, and secret agents cross paths at a turning point in history.
The show presents jazz as more than music. It becomes a symbol of freedom and resistance during a time of war and uncertainty. The story focuses on difficult choices and personal struggles as characters move through a world where survival is never simple.
Directed by Soumik Sen, the series aims to mix suspense with music and history. Arifin Shuvoo plays the lead role of the hustler. He appears in different looks and speaks Bangla, Hindi, Urdu, and English in the series. He is joined by Souraseni Maitra. The cast also includes Shataf Figar, Santanu Ghatak, Amit Saha, Alexandra Taylor, Sreya Bhattacharyya, Sayandeep Sen, Tanika Basu, and Aniruddha Gupta in important roles.
