The much-hyped Premier League streaming on JioHotstar has hit a roadblock, leaving fans frustrated.
It was the first match of this year’s Premier League, Liverpool and Bournemouth, and many subscribers reported being unable to access the stream on the website at all. For a platform that has aggressively marketed its sports lineup as a key subscription driver, such lapses raise serious concerns.
Even more frustrating is the inconsistency across devices. While the match failed to load on MacBooks, it somehow worked on Fire TV, forcing users to switch devices mid-game.
In an era where seamless streaming is non-negotiable, such disparities only highlight a lack of preparedness on the technical front. Fans expect reliability, not a digital lottery where one device works and another doesn’t.
This isn’t the first time JioHotstar has stumbled under the weight of live sports. Earlier glitches during cricket tournaments had already sparked debates on whether the service was equipped to handle large-scale, simultaneous streaming demands. The Premier League blunder now adds fuel to the fire.
With competition in the OTT sports space heating up, JioHotstar cannot afford repeated fumbles. Football fans are some of the most loyal yet demanding viewers, and disappointing them is a dangerous game.
If JioHotstar wants to position itself as the go-to hub for sports in India, fixing these reliability issues should be their top priority, not glossy marketing campaigns.
