Kapil Sharma Show Called Out For Insulting Tagore, Comedian Apologises!

A recent episode on the popular The Great Kapil Sharma Show featured Kajol Devgn and Kriti Sanon as they were promoting their new Netflix film ‘Do Patti’. Bengali poet Srijato and a lots of other people have called the show out for disrespecting Rabindranath Tagore in the episode.

Comedian Krushna Abhishek made fun of the popular song ‘Ekla Chalo Re’ and Srijato made a call-out post saying that the comedian chose to do this on this very episode as he knew of Kajol’s Bengali heritage. This is a well thought out and scripted skit and cannot be a random mistake. Filmmaker Joydeep Mukherjee too supported Srijato for his views.

The poet and lyricist said in his post that he would be compelled to take legal action if the team does not apologise within seven days. There are no public apologies till now but Srijato has said, Krushna Abhishek has reached out to him and said that it was meant for fun and he did not have any ill intentions to insult Tagore.

A public apology is still due and it will probably come soon. Demeaning figures like Rabindranath Tagore for a few cheap laughs is not at all commendable. Many have said that the comedians would not dare make fun of anything written by Premchand, Kalki, Dinkar or Ghalib. But Tagore, in spite of being no less of a literary star than them, falls prey to this because Bengalis have a reputation of being mild and accepting.
