Dulquer Salmaan’s Lokah: Chapter 1, Chandra is rewriting not just box office records but also release strategies.
The Dominic Arun-directed superhero saga, starring Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen, has grossed over ₹271 crore worldwide in less than a month, making it the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time.
But while fans are accustomed to South Indian blockbusters landing on OTT within four weeks of their theatrical release, Lokah is breaking away from that pattern.
Rumours swirled about a Netflix debut by the end of September, especially since Mohanlal’s Hridayapoorvam (released the same day as Lokah) is already confirmed for a September 26 release on JioHotstar.
Dulquer himself stepped in to quash the speculation. “Lokah isn’t coming to OTT anytime soon. Ignore the fake news and stay tuned for official announcements,” he posted on X.
The move reflects the film’s sustained box office run. With theatres across Kerala and beyond still packed, the producers see no reason to rush to digital.
For fans, it’s a reminder that in the age of streaming, theatrical success can still dictate timelines. Lokah may well push Malayalam cinema toward longer theatrical-exclusive windows.
