Do you remember how the government of India may bring a pre-screening censorship rule even for the OTT content? If you are a regular reader at Binged then you must be aware of this fact.
Now, let’s tell you the headlines. On Saturday, Mohan Bhagwat, the head of RSS stated how obscene the OTT contents are.
The domino effect has started and there’s a new update.
The government is currently looking into the issue of objectionable content on OTT streaming platforms, according to Union Minister Pralhad Joshi.
He even stated that inappropriate content on OTT platforms is a global problem and that the government is working on addressing it. We severely doubt this as taking a step even on the global content of OTT would mean a lot of restrictions.
He mentioned that the concerned ministry is already examining the issue of obscene scenes shared on OTT services.
Another source of this butterfly effect came after the first meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology. That committee also plans to look into the rise of OTT platforms and the challenges associated with them.
Now, let’s acknowledge the big question.
Is Indian OTT really going to be censored?
Most probably yes. But not to the extent that most people are thinking. You see, censoring foreign content etc is taking the matter too far and we are pretty sure that the government would not want that.
Politicians say many things but it is also the voice of the industry that has a major say.
