While platforms like JioHotstar and Prime Video have made a conscious effort to include Kannada dubs for major regional releases, Netflix’s catalogue continues to fall short in catering to this audience.
The lack of Kannada dubbed versions is more than a minor oversight, it’s a missed opportunity in one of India’s fastest-growing OTT markets. Karnataka’s audience has shown a strong appetite for dubbed content, particularly in action, drama, and big-budget South Indian films. By not offering these films in Kannada, Netflix risks alienating a significant section of viewers who prefer consuming entertainment in their native language.
Competitors have demonstrated that adding Kannada audio tracks not only improves accessibility but also expands the reach of popular titles beyond their original linguistic boundaries. For Netflix, which prides itself on being a global platform that “brings stories to everyone,” the absence of Kannada support in such cases feels like a gap in strategy.
