Netflix Increases Price Again Within a Year! What About India?

While streaming prices keep climbing across the world, Netflix India stands out for a very different reason. It has chosen stability over constant hikes, and that decision is working in its favor.

In the US, the Standard with Ads plan has gone from $7.99 to $8.99. The Standard plan has jumped from $17.99 to $19.99. The Premium plan now costs $26.99, up from $24.99. This is the second increase in just over a year. Netflix knows it can charge more, and it is doing exactly that without hesitation.

The logic is simple. With more than 325 million users globally, even a small price increase brings in massive revenue. The company is leaning into pricing as a growth engine. Complaints exist, but they do not seem to slow the strategy.

India tells a different story.

Here, Netflix has focused on affordability and access. Its mobile plan and lower-priced tiers have made it possible for a much wider audience to subscribe without feeling the pinch. Instead of testing how much users are willing to tolerate, Netflix India has kept itself affordable for years now.

That approach matters in a price-sensitive market. Viewers are not just looking for content. They are constantly comparing value across platforms. By keeping prices steady, Netflix India reduces friction. It becomes an easy choice rather than a debated expense.

There is also a long-term advantage in this strategy. Affordable pricing builds habit. Habit builds loyalty. And loyalty, over time, becomes far more valuable than short-term gains from price hikes.

Globally, Netflix is proving its pricing power. In India, it is proving something else. That sometimes, restraint can be just as powerful as ambition.
