Netflix India’s Disappointing “South” Strategy!

Netflix India’s Disappointing “South” Strategy!

Netflix India is at the centre of a lot of controversies lately. Right since May, every month, the platform has something new to worry about and it doesn’t seem to stop. No doubt about the fact that the platform has done excellent in content and finances, but things remain a little crooked.

Amid all of this, the content head Monica Shergill gave an interview. Out of many things she said, she also emphasized a lot of the South content. It is nothing that we didn’t know about but her saying makes it just disappointing.

Yeah, it is not even problematic, just disappointing.

In June, we revealed that Netflix India is making its first ever Telugu series with Sundeep Kishan. Other than that, Netflix India has more or less been highly disappointing in terms of bringing content from down south.

But what’s the statement?

“It was important for us to look at the South, and we’re focused on showcasing the best South films. Just a month ago Maharaja, a Tamil film which was successful but not a breakout, suddenly experienced what we call ‘The Netflix Effect.’ It came on our service and it became an absolute winner, travelling across markets and bringing in new sets of audiences.”

It is good to read what is written. But what’s not written also needs to be read. It means that we are not going to see any Netflix India originals from the South anytime soon. This is kinda sad but let’s see what can be done in the near future by the platform.
