Two of this year’s most talked about Hindi films, Dhadak 2 and Son of Sardaar 2, are set to arrive on Netflix India on 26 September. Interestingly, both films released in cinemas on the same date, 1 August, and now they are meeting again on the OTT stage.
Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, is a remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. It tells the story of a young couple caught between love and caste discrimination. Directed by Shazia Iqbal, the film was praised for its sensitive handling of social issues, even though it did not perform strongly at the box office.
On the other hand, Son of Sardaar 2 is a comedy starring Ajay Devgn, Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, and others. A stand alone sequel to the 2012 hit, the film aimed for light entertainment but struggled with critics and audiences. Despite this, it still carries appeal for fans who enjoy family comedies and Ajay Devgn’s screen presence.
Now, with both films releasing on Netflix on the same day, viewers will have the chance to decide which one to watch first. While Dhadak 2 speaks to audiences looking for drama and social depth, Son of Sardaar 2 is targeted at those who prefer easy laughs and a festive mood. Well, both these films have one more aspect in common. Both of these films failed to attract audiences on the big screens.
The clash that once took place at the box office is ready to play out again on streaming screens, making 26 September a big day for Netflix India.
