At this point, it’s safe to say that despite being the biggest streaming platform in India, JioHotstar also faces the highest number of user complaints daily. Since February this year, the streamer has endured a wave of criticism, yet has done very little to address it. The latest issue: the removal or unavailability of previous seasons of fan-favourite reality shows.
Some users have pointed out that JioHotstar has taken down older seasons of popular series such as MasterChef Australia and Shark Tank US. Viewers also report that previous seasons of shows like Temptation Island, The Real Housewives franchise, Below Deck, Million Dollar Listing, Big Brother, and many others are missing.
Currently, these reality titles are available on JioHotstar only in their latest seasons, with older ones inaccessible or unavailable on the platform.
Reality TV fans often want to revisit classic moments, follow a contestant’s journey from their first appearance to their ultimate victory, or binge-watch a series from the very beginning. The absence of earlier seasons is baffling, as it not only undermines subscriber engagement but also weakens content integrity and user satisfaction.
This strategy may make sense from a licensing cost perspective, but it leaves viewers frustrated and wanting more.
To become a truly world-class streaming service, JioHotstar must address these fundamental complaints. The current approach, prioritizing new content over maintaining a complete and accessible library, is a losing strategy that risks alienating its most loyal subscribers. Stay tuned for more updates.
