Netflix is undergoing significant changes globally, and WWE is no exception. After Vince McMahon’s regime ended, Triple H quickly brought noticeable differences—not just in the product but also in how fans consume it.
A major shift is WWE’s move from the USA Network to Netflix, secured through a lucrative 10-year deal. Indian fans have been eagerly waiting for updates, and now it’s official.
But the question remains: will this change be positive?
From a financial perspective, WWE is now costlier for Indian fans. SonyLIV offered more affordable plans, making it easier for fans to access. However, Netflix’s audience in India largely comes from Tier 1 and some Tier 2 cities, which may limit WWE viewership further.
Indian WWE fans are often occasional viewers, primarily tuning in for Premium Live Events (PLEs). With WWE now focusing on four major PLEs annually, this limited schedule may not significantly affect the viewing experience. Additionally, Netflix’s monthly plans provide flexibility, allowing viewers to opt out when there are no major events.
When it comes to content, SonyLIV’s originals have always been solid, but Netflix brings a global reputation, especially for Hindi-language content. For regional language viewers, however, SonyLIV still holds an edge.
These changes will take time to fully roll out. While WWE will debut on Netflix globally on January 1, Indian viewers will have to wait until April 2025. Until then, enjoy the ride and prepare for this new era of WWE streaming.
