We are living in a very different time. The kind of entertainment that is so normal to us was not even imaginable to our grandparents. If you see things like Mirzapur or Rasbhari, then can you imagine them being made 3 decades back?
No, right?
The main reason behind this is not the mentality of people. The mentality of people has changed. They were made more open by production houses who make explicit content.
Earlier, there used to be only Prasar Bharati and they were never interested in making explicit content. Even in times that are very open to steamy things, Prasar Bharati has no intentions of changing its strategy.
WAVES promises something rare in today’s entertainment space i.e. clean, family-friendly content.
Navneet Kumar Sehgal, Chairman of Prasar Bharati, emphasized the platform’s mission to bring clean entertainment to every household. “As a national broadcaster, it’s our responsibility to deliver family-friendly content to all sections of society,” he said.
WAVES is about connecting people with India’s cultural roots rather than serving entertainment. At least this is what they claim.
The platform will showcase India’s rich heritage through shows like Kakbhushundi Ramayana and Fauji 2.0. These programs aim to blend tradition with modern storytelling, making them both meaningful and engaging.
Beyond its unique content, WAVES ensures offerings in over 12 languages and diverse genres like infotainment, news, and music. Most of its content is free but the pricing is really very iffy.
By focusing on clean entertainment and a user-friendly experience, WAVES stands out as a platform that families can trust. So, it is not a part of the competition that way. Not many platforms focus on this aspect and if the officials are active enough, they can capitalise on it.
