Market saturation is a real thing. Especially when it comes to the media and entertainment industry. With content being made and delivered on the daily, why would a viewer want to spend their time watching films and shows that stem from similar plotlines. Especially when they aren’t even all that well crafted?
Such is the case with ‘Aindham Vedham’, a recently released Tamil-language mythological thriller series directed by L. Nagarajan. Streaming on Zee5 since October 25, the show follows Anu, a young woman whose journey to perform her mother’s last rites takes a mysterious turn and finds her entangled in a cobwebbed mess of supernatural and religious undertones.
Although it had the potential to grab a multitude of viewers with its gripping plotline, the show falls flat performance-wise. This is not something new in itself. As more and more titles are released everyday, they fall victim to poor execution, never quite living up to their true potential.
What this essentially does is make OTT platforms a reservoir of one-time-watch titles that aren’t really self-sustaining in the long run. Which is to say, what filmmakers and showrunners need to shift their focus on, in addition to coming up with quality scripts is a good overall execution of said scripts.
