Why Netflix India Originals Fail Against Prime Video’s?

Indian shows have started reaching new corners of the world, but not every platform has shared that success. Prime Video’s Indian originals are now being watched across continents, while Netflix India has not been able to achieve the same level of international reach. The reason for this difference lies less in storytelling and more in how these platforms are positioned in different markets.

Prime Video has grown steadily in India and is still building its base in many countries. This gives its Indian content more visibility in places where viewers are curious about fresh stories. When there are fewer local shows available, Indian series like Panchayat or Paatal Lok stand out and attract attention. In contrast, Netflix already dominates regions such as Europe and South America with their own popular local originals. People in Spain or Brazil often have so many strong regional options that they rarely look for shows from India.

Netflix India is extremely powerful at home. It knows its Indian audience well and has built a strong library for them. But that very success has made its content more India-focused and less global in tone. It is not that the stories are weak, but rather that they are made for viewers who already understand Indian life and culture. For someone in Poland or Argentina, these shows might feel distant compared to the local dramas available on Netflix there.

Prime Video, however, benefits from India’s multilingual nature. Its shows are often dubbed and subtitled in several languages from the start, making them easier to enjoy abroad. The platform’s strategy of blending local flavor with universal emotions gives it an edge in unfamiliar markets.

In a way, Prime Video’s global reach is helped by Netflix’s local dominance. As Netflix fills screens with regional stories across Europe and Latin America, Indian shows on Prime Video quietly travel farther, winning hearts in unexpected places.
