There are a few OTT platforms in the Bengali OTT industry that are trying hard to match the extraordinary success of Hoichoi. But Not any channel has still been even close. Big OTT giants have not tried to break into the regional space as there is a lot of competition there already and it will be hard to create an audience base with Hoichoi having a heavy monopoly.
But there are platforms like Chorki and AddaTimes who try to replicate Hoichoi’s business strategy, and while Chorki has gained considerable success with it, we cannot say the same about AddaTimes.
AddaTimes is quite good with its list of licensed films and their collection is as interesting as Hoichoi’s. But they fail miserably with the original content and have given the audiences nothing but the same crap over and over again. While Hoichoi has evolved through its diversity of genres and performances, and it has gone on from a soft porn platform like Ullu to a platform of considerable weight, AddaTimes has failed to make that transition and is not investing on writing and contents yet.
AddaTimes is trying quite hard with shows like ‘Abhishapto’, ‘Khyapa’, ‘Preme Pora Baron’ and now another show ‘Dekhechhi Tomake Shrabone’ is coming. But they won’t do much work if they do not feel the pulse of the audience and bring something out of the box in near future.
