Zee5 November Report: A Pretty Average Month

Zee5 is definitely experimenting more and more with the variety of content it offers. Whether it’s in terms of offering a good mix of movies and shows or exploring genres and languages, Zee5 is doing it all. This is evident in its November slate which was quite a balanced month for the streamer despite nothing standing out in particular.

November started with Zee5 launching the second season of its much acclaimed series ‘Mithya’. Unfortunately it did not work the same as last time due to its dull storytelling with nothing new to tell and one dimensional characters. The only highlight of the show was performances by Huma Qureshi and Naveen Kasturia.

Next up was ‘Yek Number’, a licensed Marathi film that managed to cater to the Marathi audience in a limited scope. This was followed by another licensed film ‘Maa Nanna Superhero’, a Telugu family drama that did not excite much since it also premiered on Prime Video.

Zee5 switched to original shows once again with ‘Paithani’, a well intentioned but old school family drama that not only took too many cinematic liberties but also made poor storytelling choices. Though its attempt to explore the Paithani weaving tradition is appreciable.

Telugu-Tamil mystery drama series ‘Vikkatakavi’ was the next to premiere on Zee5 and it gained positive response from the audience and achieved the feat of fastest 50 million streaming minutes for a Telugu series on Zee5.

Rom-Com series ‘Divorce Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Kargea’ came out towards the end of the month and despite being loud it had its moments. The premise was interesting and the show me has a few funny situations but it gets too predictable.

Lastly, there was Jayam Ravi’s Tamil comedy drama ‘Brothers’ that had it’s OTT premiere on Zee5 and since the film was not very great at the box office it could not gain much attention on Zee5 as well.

Overall, it was a good November for Zee5 when considering the balanced mix of content it offered in the month. The only setback is that none of it could deliver a breakthrough performance. Hopefully Manoj Bajpayee’s ‘Despatch’ does it next month for Zee5.
