September was a decent month for Zee5, though there was nothing in terms of original content and it was a bunch of licensed films that did the job.
The first two weeks of September saw no new releases on Zee5 that was happily enjoying the success of ‘Murshid’ which released in the final days of August. It was only almost towards mid September that three films made their OTT debut. And these were Keerthy Suresh’s Telugu political comedy ‘Raghu Thatha’, Jeethu Joseph’s Malayalam crime comedy ‘Nunakuzhi’ and Hindi spy thriller ‘Berlin’ which landed on Zee5 after multiple festival runs.
All of these three films received mostly positive reviews and brought in some good viewership numbers for Zee5. The linguistic diversity here is another notable thing.
There was once again a two week gap and when September was almost over Zee5 launched its second original of the month (after Berlin), ‘Love, Sitara’ starring Shobhita Dhulipala in the lead alongside another hit licensed film ‘Demonte Colony 2’.
While ‘Love, Sitara’ is a dysfunctional family drama and is a perfect recipe for disaster, ‘Demonte Colony 2’ continued its theatrical success streak on Zee5 as well.
Overall, it was a good September for Zee5 in terms of attracting viewers with its licensed films, though the platform did lack big time on the original content front this month.
