Broken but Beautiful Season 3 Review – Terrific Performances, Writing Make It The Best Season Of All

BOTTOM LINE: Terrific Performances, Writing Make It The Best Season Of All
Rating
5 / 10
Skin N Swear
Liberal use of expletives; ample sexual references; several not-too-explicit lovemaking sequences
Drama, Romance

What Is the Story About?

ALT Balaji is back with Broken But Beautiful Season 3, this time with a whole new cast, crew and plot.

Agastya Rao (Sidharth Shukla) is a supremely talented theatre director, down on luck and moolah because of his uncompromising eccentricities when it comes to his work. He is bull-headed and will not bow to shallow artifice. Rumi Desai (Sonia Rathee) is a rich, pretty, headstrong girl, who hides her insecurities and feelings of inadequacy under the veneer of a devil-may-care attitude. They hate each other passionately, which is why they fail to realise when that hate turns to ardent love.

Broken But Beautiful Season 3 is produced by Sarita Tanwar, Niraj Kothari, 11 11 Productions, and co-produced by Yukti Anand. The story and screenplay is by Shazia Malik and Sharifa Roy, while the screenplay and dialogue is by Radhika Anand. Priyanka Ghose is the director.

Performances?

Sonia Rathee’s acting debut is confident and assured. Her performance is natural, effortless and praiseworthy. She’s got a great screen presence, which is bound to grow with subsequent outings.

Taniya Kalra and Manvir Singh are very good as Agastya’s production partners and friends, Farah and Rishabh. Ehan Bhat is pure eye candy as Rumi’s crush, Ishaan Rana, though his emoting is not that up to the mark.

The pièce de résistance in Broken But Beautiful S3 is Sidharth Shukla. He is magnificent as Agastya, exuding a potent mix of vulnerability, angst and fervour. The spotlight is equally on both the leads, and yet, Sidharth Shukla owns the screen in every frame. His spectacled look in the latter episodes is to die for.

Overall, Broken But Beautiful S3 is well performed, with every actor putting in their best.

Analysis

The story of Broken But Beautiful S3 is as old as the hills. Boy meets girl, they hate – love – hate each other, part ways, and fall even harder in love. Yet, despite the formulaic storyline, there’s a compelling and refreshing element to the story that makes it quite watchable.

The brisk pace of the narrative helps in keeping viewers engaged and entertained. No long-drawn scenes and endlessly meandering sequences to weigh and drag down the plot here. Maybe that’s the reason why the predictable plot doesn’t rankle.

Also, Broken But Beautiful S3 is markedly different from its predecessor seasons. Seasons 1 and 2 bristled with deeper emotion, with no space left for lighthearted humour. However, this latest installment of Broken but Beautiful is all of it – passionate, moving and, yes, humorous.

The performances of the lead actors elevate the story considerably from a humdrum routine romantic caper. They also share an interesting chemistry that sucks you into the story, and keeps you glued. Surprisingly, Sonia Rathee’s Rumi is a more multi-nuanced character than the relatively straight forward character of Agastya.

The dialogues of Broken But Beautiful S3 are the highlight of the narrative. They are extremely well-written, never coming across as artificial or contrived. The soundtrack of the series, of course, is a definite plus. More on that later.

All said and done, Broken But Beautiful Season 3 is the complete package for die-hard romantics who love shedding bucketful of tears and soaking entire boxes of tissues while watching a dreamy, soppy love story unfolding on screen. For lovers of action and thrill, Broken But Beautiful S3 is not, and has never been the kind of show to appeal to them.

Music and Other Departments?

The music of Broken But Beautiful Season 3 is the heart and soul of the story. The soundtrack, already a talking point before the show started streaming, is a treat for the ears. The soulful music, poignant lyrics and evocative singing make the songs eminently downloadable, to be heard on loop when the mood is mellow and the mind is at peace. Vishal Mishra, Amaal Malik, Akhil Sachdeva and Sandman have done a great job with the soundtrack.

Kamlesh Robin Parui’s editing is efficient. Anik R Verma’s cinematography transforms ordinary spaces into things of whimsical beauty. It is lovely. The production values and designing are top notch. Zion Design Axis has done a good job with the production designing. Ankita Patel’s costume designing is superb.

Highlights?

Sidharth Shukla and Sonia Rathee’s performances

Fast pace of narrative

Top notch production values

Soulful music

Drawbacks?

Predictable plot

Did I Enjoy It?

It’s great content for die-hard romantics

Will You Recommend It?

Not for thrill and action lovers; definitely for romance aficionados
