What Is the Story About?
Sathi (Jagadeesh Prathap) is in desperate need of money to get an operation done for a hole in the heart of his youngest kid. He is under extreme pressure from his wife. What happens when he gets a suitcase which he believes could be a solution to all his problems? Were his problems solved, or did he get involved in more is the movie’s basic storyline.
Performances?
Jagadeesh Prathap is decent in a role that looks well-suited for him. He does well in the dramatic portions but lacks the punch in other scenes, which require him to show different skills like fear, confidence and confusion. He is alright, but they could be better and thereby elevate the proceedings further.
Raj Tirandasu has a decent supporting role, and he is okay. It could have been more effective with better writing and sharper presence and delivery.
Mohana Sree and Aneesha Dama are the female leads in the movie. The former has a better role comparatively, even though it is a regular one.
Analysis
Abhinav Danda directs Sathi Gani Rendu Ekaralu. It is a crime caper set in the village backdrop with a mix of eccentric and realistic characters.
The storyline perse is nothing new. We have seen movies with similar plots in the past. They are the staple of crime comedies. What makes Sathi Gani Redu Ekaralu different from them is the rural Telangana background and the characters who inhabit the terrain.
Over the last decade, and particularly in the last few years, there have been many small, rooted films set in the rural Telangana milieu. Sathi Gani Redu Ekaralu is another addition to the list concerning the setup and the dialect. The movie, in fact, starts very similarly to those dramas with the heart ailment situation. However, once a major event occurs, the genre of the film is entirely changed.
A crime comedy commences with the entry of one quirky character after the other. Each has a unique characterisation, and that leads to fun. The problem is the ‘fun’ is of silly variety, with the silliness increasing for each subsequent scene.
The seriousness related to the core plot is diluted by the silliness. After a point, one just goes with the flow and doesn’t care about the main issue. Given how things are proceedings, things get predictable related to the end.
Still, for what it’s worth, the silliness does lead to laughs at times. There is a consistency to it, and if one doesn’t mind it, there is definitely some fun to have. The Vennela Kishore track is the best example in this case.
While the ending is predictable, some bits and pieces do work and manage to engage. But, they are few, and that is ultimately the biggest issue with Sathi Gadi Redu Ekaralu.
Overall, Sathi Gadi Rendu Ekaralu offers some fun of silly variety, and the set-up adds to the freshness, but for its length and predictability, it ends up as a passable affair at best. Give it a try if you don’t mind the issues for some silly time pass.
Other Artists?
Vennela Kishore gets something different from the routine in Sathi Gadi Rendu Ekaralu. He starts a little offkey, or maybe it takes time to get used to, but as the narrative progresses, he gets better. By the time one reaches the end, it all works out.
Muralidhar Gaud of Balagam fame is effective. Bithiri Satti could have done better in what was given to him. ‘Gully Boy’ Riyaz’s character starts well but is ineffective by the end. The rest of the cast is okay.
Music and Other Departments?
Jay Krish’s songs are alright, but the background score is neat. It oscillates effortlessly between drama and fun.The cinematography is also good for the setting. There is a visible flourish which can’t be missed at times, but it gets repetitive later. The editing could have been better. A smooth flow is missing. The writing is decent if the silliness is given a pass. The usual local slang parts have an air of predictability to them, though.
