What Is the Story About?
The new season of ZEE5 original series Sunflower picks up from the events of Season 1. Raj Kapoor, a resident of Sunflower Society, is found murdered, and cops Digendra (Ranvir Shorey) and Tambe (Girish Kulkarni) get into investigative mode. Along with primary suspect Sonu Singh (Sunil Grover), the needle of suspicion also points to Rosie (Adah Sharma), Ahuja (Mukul Chadda) and several others. Will the cops be able to nail the murderer?
Sunflower Season 2 has been created by Vikas Bahl, directed by Navin Gujral, and produced by Reliance Entertainment.
Performances?
All members of the primary cast in Sunflower Season 2 have essayed their roles well. Sunil Grover, Ranvir Shorey and Girish Kulkarni form an entertaining trio that holds the narrative together. Mukul Chadha has less to do this season, as does Ashish Vidyarthi. Adah Sharma is good in her scenes. The rest of the cast is passable.
Analysis
For any whodunit to work and work well, the plot and its writing must be solid. That’s where Sunflower Season 2 falters majorly. The new season of Sunflower suffers from the same problems that had plagued the debut season of the show – too many pompous, self-indulgent subplots, each of which does nothing but take the story in directions that seem utterly random, and dispensable in the larger scheme of things.
In a bid to introduce red herrings and take audiences down myriad rabbit holes that lead nowhere, the makers lose sight of the main purpose – to keep audiences hooked and invested in the murder mystery. The subplots are way too many and way too boring to add anything of substance or value to the story.
The cast of the series, and their performances, are definitely a plus for the show. The making and production values of the show are also good. But all of it goes down the drain on the face of the meandering, mediocre storyline. The story picks up only in the last episode of the series, and then ends on an intriguing cliffhanger, indicating a new season of the show.
To sum it up, Sunflower Season 2 is a long-winded, mundane and mediocre farce, masquerading as a murder mystery. Watch it only if you have nothing better to do; or else, give it a wide berth.
Music and Other Departments?
The title music and background score by Sahej Bakshi and Sarvesh Shrivastava is good. The cinematography of the show is average, as is the editing.
