Ad Astra is an American science fiction adventure film, set in a time in the future when mankind has set up base on the moon and commercial flights are available for space travel to the moon and Mars. The Earth, and the Solar System, is beset by strange space power surges in recent times that are dangerous for human life. One such power surge almost costs Major Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) his life. Roy is the son of famed astronaut H. Clifford McBride (Tommy Lee Jones), who had led a space mission to Neptune thirty years ago to hunt for intelligent life on the edges of the solar system. Ever since Astronaut Clifford and his space ship reached Neptune 16 years ago, nothing had been heard from him or the space ship since then. Major Roy is informed by the U.S. Space Command (SpaceCom) that the surges are originating from the ‘Lima Project’, that his father had been working on. More importantly, his father may be alive, and on Neptune. Roy is asked to undertake a mission to Mars from where it may be easier to establish communication with his father. He is joined on the mission by his father’s old associate, Colonel Pruitt (Donald Sutherland). The events and happenings that take place on the mission, ending with his father drifting off into space alone, reaffirm Roy’s faith in family and connections on Earth. He returns to Earth safely and reconciles with his estranged wife Eve (Liv Tyler). The movie has gorgeous visuals, and a superlative performance by Brad Pitt.
