Fargo is an anthology television series, which means each season has it’s own self-contained narrative following a set of characters in various time eras and situations. In this series, all of the stories are happening in the same universe created by the story-tellers the Coen brothers and Noah Hawley, which is centered around the Midwestern United States in the titular city of Fargo, North Dakota.
The first season follows Lorne Malvo (Billy Bob Thornton) in 2006 as he passes through Bemidji, Minnesota, and influences the community – including insurance salesman Lester Nygaard (Martin Freeman) – with his spite, cruelty and deception. Meanwhile, Deputy Molly Solverson (Allison Tolman) and Duluth police officer Gus Grimly (Colin Hanks) team up to solve a series of murders linked to Malvo and Nygaard.
The newly airing fourth season will be set in 1950 in Kansas City. The series follows the head of a crime syndicate (Chris Rock) which is made up of black migrants, as he flees the Jim Crow South who have a contentious relationship with the Kansas City mafia. Unlike the previous three seasons, this season will have 11 episodes in this mini-series.
