Madalena

In a small rural town in the middle of acres and acres of soy fields, bodies keep turning up. The latest being the body of Madalena, a trans woman, found in a soybean field. Three protagonists don’t know one another, but are all in some way connected through Madalena.

Three characters are affected by the event: for Luziane and Cristiano, a bar hostess and a farm scion, it occasionally somehow ruptures; for Bianca, an old friend, it is a matter-of-fact instance of growing violence in their community and are told as separate vignettes. The movie clearly makes a statement about Brazil, which has the highest rate of murder of transgender people in the world.
