The Banker is a Hollywood film inspired by the true story of Joe Morris (Samuel L Jackson) and Bernard Garrett (Anthony Mackie), a couple of the first black people who operated banks in racism-hit United States of the sixties. At a time when racial discrimination was at its highest in America, and African-Americans were not allowed banking facilities, nor the freedom to operate their own banks, the duo of Morris and Garrett pulled off an audacious plan to not only own banks but also operate them. They sidestep the discriminatory system by training a working-class white man (Nicholas Hoult) to be the front of their enterprise, while they pose as the janitor and driver of the organisation. Pretty soon, their enterprise takes off successfully and they start lending money to black people, something that was not allowed in those days, thereby enabling coloured people to fund their own homes and businesses. But things take a turn for the worse, as the government gets wind of their activities and gets onto their tail. The story is narrated with hefty doses of humour, making the heavy topic of racial discrimination palatable. Starring Anthony Mackie, Nicholas Hoult, Nia Long, Jessie T. Usher, Samuel L. Jackson directed by George Nolfi https://youtu.be/J_-nk9-sMus
