Amaran, the war biopic starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, broke box office records in Tamil Nadu on the day of its much-awaited release. The film, which is based on Major Mukund Varadarajan’s life, has won several praise from critics.
It earned Rs 21 crore net on its first day, which fell on Diwali, making it the highest-grossing Sivakarthikeyan film to date. This was expected from the film given the hype and excitement among fans which was boosted after the initial promos and teasers.
Amaran’s net collection on its first day was Rs 21.65 crore in India and Rs 34 crore globally, including Rs 9 crore from foreign markets. In India, the movie brought in a total of Rs 25 crore.
It is currently the fourth highest-grossing Tamil opener of 2024. Major releases like Lucky Baskhar, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and Singham Again have put up a fierce fight, but Amaran has had one of the best opening-day performances for a Tamil movie this year.
The results were clear from the pre-booking sales which were at times even more than those of BB3 and Singham Again.
Amaran’s opening day cracker implies that the film has been well received by the audience, even though Diwali is not the main holiday weekend for a major film release in the Tamil and Telugu states. As a huge weekend forms up ahead, it remains to be seen how the film continues to dominate the box office and have a stronghold.
