It has been more than a month since the Pa Ranjith directorial Thangalaan released in theatres. The movie was initially released only in Southern states in the regional languages. The Hindi dub for the film was supposed to be released on 30th August, but it was further delayed to 6th September.
The film already crossed the 100 crore mark in the regional languages itself. It became one of the most successful movies of Tamil industry this year. But the film could not shine pan-India which back then was in the hangover of Stree 2 which released on the same day as Thangalaan. Now, Thangalaan has entered the National grid and has been released in Hindi dub to appease the National crowd.
The film initially started really slow in the North. The Greatest of All Times (GOAT), which released in the same week found more viewership in the North despite only being released in small theatres. But now slowly Thangalaan has picked up its pace and recently there was an increase in the screens showing the film in the North. Now 150 more screens will be added that will premiere the film.
This increase will significantly boost the sales for Thangalaan. Without much emphasis on the marketing part, the film continues to gather audiences through only word of mouth. The film has been critically praised and many who watched it, consider it worthy of receiving multiple awards. The film amazes one through its story, characters, performances etc. and through this excellence in quality, it promotes itself to emerge as a hit.
Prior to its release in Hindi dub, one could say the movie had faded away from limelight due to less marketing. It was expected the film won’t be doing good in Hindi dubs for the same. Plus, multiple big movies were lined up for release at the same time. But Thangalaan proved everyone wrong by its mere excellence.
It has been about two weeks since the film was released in the North, and considering its increased popularity, one can say that it will do quite good in coming times.
