Indian films are becoming an amusement source for cinephiles all around the globe. The international acclaim in Payal Kapadia’s ‘All We Imagine as Light’ is its best example. Following the celebration, the industry came up with a laurel for another film which made its name in the Russian Film Festival.
‘Kottukali’ (Eng. The Adamant Girl) is a drama film based on a social issue written and directed by P.S Vinoth Raj that talks about the character ‘Meena,’ played by actor Anna Ben, who falls in love with a man from a lower caste. As a result, her family believes she is possessed and casts her out.
The movie is produced by actor Sivakarthikeyan for SK Productions as well as Kalai Arasu for Little Wave Productions, and features Actor Anna Ben in her Tamil debut, along with Actor Soori in pivotal roles. The technical wing includes the handling of cinematography by B. Saktivel and the editing by Ganesh Siva respectively.
The film showcases the orthodox mindset prevailing in local communities, in which it blends humour and drama while focusing on a unique women-centric perspective. The storyline explores a range of emotions — love, care, courage, and anger, blended with a touch of humour. Both main actors had the opportunity to deliver captivating performances as the storyline demanded.
This concept ultimately led the flick to win the prestigious ‘Grand Prix Award’ at the 22nd Amur Autumn International Film Festival held in Russia.
