The movie had crossed over 300 crores worldwide, which is a landmark bill but not quite the blaster that so many had expected. In fact, only yesterday, it just stepped over that line while at a decent pace after coming down on Monday. It has been quite a fight for it to get around Petta now. What has not been smooth is different. With the large budget and the buzz after a long awaited coming back for Rajinikanth after Jailer, expectations mounted higher. So huge, one expected a blast right from the first day, but now we are still waiting for a blast.
Set up to succeed, TJ Gnanavel’s directorial has brought a decent flick but will not break records. Released on October 10, it has some decent word-of-mouth but does not push immediate global numbers as one thought would happen. Probably the genre is not everyone’s cup of tea, putting off the masses from going to see the films. Not that it is underperforming, just that international performances do not seem to set USA Box Office standards.
Alexander-Neofrech hope for 4.17 crores. This may still be less than 4.41 crores on Tuesday. Back domestically, it stands certainly at 120.58 nett; the Indian gross is bringing in 142.28 crores with the added tax burden. The only star being dragged down being Internationally with only 71 crores. Finally, worldwide total floating after a week at consequence around 213.28 crores. Steady but an underwhelming pace.
With Petta reaching 300 crores gross, Vettaiyan is almost there. End of the week after the extended opening today will look like a nett of around 300+ crores. It will be interesting to see if it can overtake the Petta soon. Rajinikanth still has certain star power with this one, but it might not be the behemoth blockbuster anticipated.
