It is a big day for the cinemas. On the occassion of Navmi of Navratri, two important films are getting released in the North Indian market. Needless to say, we are talking about Jigra and “Vicky Vidya Ka Wo Wala Video”. But, we need to ask whether those two are the only two films getting released today.
Not at all. Vettaiyan is a fairly big deal down South and it is also getting released. More importantly, it features Amitabh Bachchan who needs no introduction. But, do you know that it is the birthday of the Megastar? It would have been nice to watch his latest release on his birthday.
But, Vettaiyan has missed something important and it is also a problem with most Tamil movies. They somehow fail to grab a good release in North India. You see, Vettaiyan is having a decent release in North but it is limited to local theatres. Vettaiyan is not getting released on any National Cinema chain just like The Greatest Of All Time.
This is indeed a big loss because a lot of cities don’t even have a decent local theatre. Yes, it is mostly true for Tier 2 cities as the arrival of national multiplex chains usually disrupts the local theatrical chains in a not so desirable manner.
Having Vettaiyan would have been great in the national cinema chain of North India. But, let’s be happy with what we got.
