RJ Balaji’s ‘Sorgavaasal’ Is Coming To OTT On This Date

Sidharth Vishwanath’s directorial debut ‘Sorgavaasal’ is having a decent theatrical run after releasing late last month. The prison drama will soon complete its four weeks window before digital premiere and will land on Netflix later this month.

‘Sorgavaasal’ follows the story of a wrongly convicted ordinary man who while being imprisoned finds himself caught in a system of corruption and savagery and fights to survive through the terrifying ordeal. The film raises a very significant question that whether places like prison really reform people.

‘Sorgavaasal’ has received mixed to positive reviews and has been claimed by critics to be a blend of ‘Virumaandi’ (2004) and ‘Vada Chennai’ (2018). While the performances by the cast has received praise, the critics have called out the film for falling short of becoming a compelling prison drama. Probably the film had enough potential only if the screenplay was tighter.

‘Sorgavaasal’ is penned and helmed by Sidharth Vishwanath who has earlier worked as Pa. Ranjith’s assistance and is directing his first feature film. The film stars RJ Balaji, Selvaraghavan, Natty, Karunaas, Saniya Iyappan, Sharaf-U-Dheen, Hakkim Shah, Balaji Sakthivel, Anthonythasan, Ravi Raghavendra, and Samuel Robinson.

Co-writers for ‘Sorgavaasal’ include Tamizh Prabha and Ashwin Ravichandran. Amongst the technical crew there is Prince Anderson as the cinematographer and Selva RK as the editor. Christo Xavier serves as the music director for the film. Produced by Swipe Right Studios, ‘Sorgavaasal’ will premiere on Netflix on 27th December, 2024.
