A highly underrated but critically acclaimed Tamil action thriller, DNA, is all set to arrive on JioHotstar. Led by Atharvaa, this one also features talents such as Nimisha Sajayan and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. It had its theatrical premiere on June 20 but failed to do well at the box office, managing to gross a little over INR 7 crore against its INR 6 crore budget.
However, DNA received a highly positive reaction from both critics and audiences. With its OTT premiere scheduled for July 19 on JioHotstar, this underdog of a movie could take the OTT universe by surprise and emerge as a massive streaming success. Why? Well, the movie has all the markings of being a good movie.
Helmed by Nelson Venkatesh, DNA takes a slow start but gives viewers a gripping middle act and a terrific climax. In 2014, Varadarajan’s (Ayyub) hit-and-run led to a baby swap, initiating a child-trafficking ring with Rajendran (Subramaniam Siva). In 2023, Anand (Atharvaa) discovers that his newborn was swapped. Investigating with SI Chinnasamy (Balaji Sakthivel), he uncovers the network and retrieves his child.
Viewers praised the movie’s screenplay, BGM, story, and terrific work from the cast, particularly from Atharvaa and Ayyub. Despite initial clichés and commercial elements like fights and songs, the film delivers a gripping narrative with a strong emotional core and a satisfying, fate-driven climax.
