The Viral Fever launched ‘Thalaivettiyaan Paalayam’, the Tamil remake of its hit Hindi series ‘Panchayat’ on Prime Video recently and the reviews for the series are now out. As expected the series is a faithful adaptation of the original version in terms of story without much changes in the core plot. But is that good or bad?
Well, people are generally saying positive things about ‘Thelaivettiyaan Paalayam’, and are specially appreciating the casting. The actors have done justice their roles and are incredible in their characters. The makers of the Tamil version have kept the core emotions, humour and wittiness of the show very similar to the original and have done very little tweaks here and there.
While such an honest copy of the original serves well for the series in most parts, the lazy screenplay could have been better to accommodate the local social-political scenarios and give a more authentic feel and look to the series.
Moreover, the availability of the original on the same platform made many people think that remaking it is a mistake and a redundant activity. But those who have seen it are happy with the outcome though even they are not denying the exact replica it has turned out to be, just in a different language, different setting and with different actors.
Maybe, ‘Panchayat’ is such a heartwarming and likeable a series that people are not minding watching it in a new outlook even though there’s nothing different story wise. And therefore what was thought would not work and will be a bane, is actually making people happy and if not totally a boon, ‘Thalaivettiyaan Paalayam’ is not that bad either. It can be a good watch, specially for Tamil speaking audience who haven’t seen the original and will also help increase TVF’s reach in regions it is yet to spread its wing into.
