Whether or not an individual believes in the divine, is hardly a matter solely restricted to religion. It essentially boils down to faith. Which is something that a film or TV show brings into question every now and then. So much so that perhaps, the market has become quite saturated with it.
Case in point: upcoming Telugu fantasy adventure film ‘Jathara’. Slated to release on November 8, the film is set in a mystical landscape wherein the goddess Gangamma blessed villages. The film weaves themes like folklore, betrayal, revenge, and divine intervention, together. The result is a dark tale set in the 19th century as it explores how both mortal actions as well as celestial forces shape destinies.
As is evident from recent releases like ‘Aindham Vedham’, viewers seem to have had enough of the mythical/mystical genre, at least for the time being. Moreover, it doesn’t just end there.
A number of big and highly anticipated titles revolving within the same genre are also upcoming. Which just goes to say that it is perhaps, high time for relatively smaller productions to either be based off of completely different themes, or come up with something truly captivating for the audiences, to set themselves apart.
