Will Robinhood Rule the Holiday Box Office?

A burglar dressed up as Santa Claus is the novel concept with which the comedy-action flick Robinhood, starring Nithiin, and directed by Venky Kudumula promises to surprise audiences. Its December 20 release puts it in stiff competition at the busy Christmas box office. Can it carve out a niche amidst the season’s biggies?

The oddball concept may attract some people’s attention, it is hard to see whether that would suffice to sustain the interest of a big crowd. Even with the backing of Mythri Movie Makers and a good team of technicians, Robinhood has all his other needs besides the ostensible reason for drawing the crowds. The film risks not working out to the audiences’ expectations if not well portrayed.

It has a packed December schedule to contend against, as Pushpa 2 going to be big ticket-release hopes. Will it be able to make its mark or find it hard to get noticed from such strong contenders?

Previous successes of Nithiin and Kudumula do not guarantee results this time around. It is important that the film has both humor and action at the right level. If it fails on either count, Robinhood is likely to be forgotten at a time when competition is high.

Although Robinhood has promise, it is no guarantee to box office success. It has to prove that it can do more than hold a peculiar idea if it wants to survive in the season that presents many good contenders.
