For a streaming service that launched only several months ago, in November 2019 to be precise, Disney+ has certainly made handsome inroads into capturing a huge number of subscribers in a relatively short period. Disney+ has raced to a staggering 28.6 millionsubscribers since its November launch. And this, when it has launched only in select countries across the globe – USA, Canada, Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand. Huge markets like India, Brazil, UK and South Africa are still to be tapped.
Latest research points to an even more incredible fact. As per the latest data available with UK market research firm Ampere Analysis, as many as 50 percent of U.S. internet users with children under 10 in their households have subscribed to the Disney+ streaming service.
Another statistic that weighs in in Disney+’s favour is that 41% young people in the age group of 18-24 years have bought a Disney+ subscription. The Star Wars live-action series The Mandalorian, and the upcoming Marvel Studios series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision and Loki, are attractions that have pulled in subscribers from this age bracket for Disney+. Data research firms expect more Disney+ sign-ups as the premiere dates of the aforementioned series come up.
Disney+ is scheduled to launch in the UK, along with Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland on 24th March. The streaming service arrives in India on the Hotstar platform, as Disney+ Hotstar, on 29th March.
