Netflix vs GOI vs Ex Employee On Tax, Racism Etc!

Things are getting wilder for Netflix India. The platform already has a lot of contributions to controversies. But, now it is their time to buckle up for something legal.

What is the new update?

The Indian government is reportedly looking into Netflix, and it’s not about what shows they’re streaming.

Nope, it’s about how they’re running their business in India. We’re talking visa issues, tax stuff, and even claims of racial discrimination. Pretty heavy, isn’t it?

This all came out because of an email sent by a government official named Deepak Yadav. He works at this office that deals with foreigners in New Delhi. The email was sent to Nandini Mehta, who used to work for Netflix India but left in 2020.

Now, Mehta’s got her own beef with Netflix. She’s suing them in the US, saying they fired her unfairly and treated her badly because of her race and gender. Netflix says that’s not true and that they fired her for misusing a company credit card. Drama, right?

When asked about this investigation, Netflix was like, “Huh? What investigation?” They say they don’t know anything about it. They’re also denying all the stuff Mehta’s saying in her lawsuit.

Here’s the thing: India’s super important for Netflix. They’ve got about 10 million users there, and they’ve been working hard to make more Indian shows and movies. But it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. Some people have gotten upset about certain shows, saying they’re not respectful of Indian culture.

Mehta, the ex-Netflix exec, is pretty happy about this investigation. She hopes everyone gets to know what comes out of it. Meanwhile, her lawsuit against Netflix is still going on in the US.

It’s like we’re watching a real-life series unfold, isn’t it? Netflix vs. Ex-Employee vs. Indian Government. Wonder what the next episode will bring!

What do you think about all this? Do you think it’ll affect what we get to watch on Netflix in India?
