The release for Srijit Mukherjee’s upcoming thriller ‘Tekka’ will not be very smooth. The movie has again been subjected to trolling and criticism recently.
Huge hoardings of the movie have been put up all over Kolkata and netizens think the content of the hoardings are not ethical. The protests against the rape of the junior doctor in Kolkata is still happening. And in the Midst of all this, a social media user has shared a post with the hoarding saying “Who will return my daughter?” with a photo of Swastika Mukherjee playing a distressed mother. Netizens think that using the current social environment for the movie’s gain is not a very moral thing to do and the filmmaker has responded by saying this is only the half truth. There is actually a second hoarding, with the protagonist Dev’s photo (which is more engaging to some of them) that replies to the previous question by saying “Time”. Time will return her daughter, and this promotion does not seem very out of place when one gets to know that this is actually a kidnap thriller and Dev is playing a kidnapper.
But the current socio-political issues will no doubt affect the film and it is indeed a very risky step to release the movie now. There is huge uncertainty about the movie and what it will do in the box office.
