Ti West Discusses ‘MaXXXine’ And The Future Of ‘X’ Franchise

While critical reception for Ti West’s latest film, MaXXXine, hasn’t been as strong as the previous entries in the X franchise, it still serves as a satisfying conclusion to the popular slasher horror trilogy. Starring Mia Goth once again, MaXXXine has earned a respectable $7.9 million domestically through its limited release and a “fresh” Rotten Tomatoes score of 74% based on 217 reviews. Given the X franchise’s growing popularity, the possibility of a fourth film shouldn’t be discounted.

Speaking with Discussing Film, Ti West talked about ‘MaXXXine’ and the franchise’s future, along with discussing the possibility of a fourth movie. Upon being asked about Mia Goth’s Maxine’s future, this is what the director said:

“Anything is possible. At the moment, it’s hard to say for Maxine and her story because I do feel like we have taken her almost as far as it could go. I think it would be better to catch up with her much later down the line. It wouldn’t be worth catching up with her three years later, or six years later, it would be better to see Maxine much further down the road. So, maybe somewhere, many years from now, that is something that Mia and I could revisit. But for the time being, we have left her where she belongs.”

West’s statement indicates that he and Goth may put their creative collaboration on hold for some years before revisiting Maxine’s crazy and bonkers world. This is understandable as both individuals have other projects as well. Goth is currently working on Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming sci-fi horror, Frankenstein, starring Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi. Moreover, MaXXXine’s ending was satisfactory, allowing the protagonist to escape from the demons of her past life.

Although, we can see West revisiting Maxine’s story sometime in the future. Who knows? But right now, the ‘X’ franchise needs to rest for some time. Led by Mia Goth, MaXXXine stars Elizabeth Debicki, Kevin Bacon, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, Halsey, Bobby Cannavale, Michelle Monaghan, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
