Can we say that 2024 was a year for the Khans to reflect and contemplate their future plans?
As we’ve seen, both Salman Khan and Aamir Khan faced some of their worst box office results with their recent films. While Shah Rukh Khan ruled 2023 with “Pathaan” and “Jawan”, he too is on a hiatus, with plans to make another comeback only after 2025.
Looking closely, 2024 seems to be a transitional period, offering a window of opportunity for the next generation of actors to connect with the audience. Rajkummar Rao has taken “Stree 2” to the top of Bollywood’s box office, and Vicky Kaushal made the nation go crazy with his “Tauba Tauba” moves.
On the other hand, Akshay Kumar delivered back-to-back flops, and despite “Shaitan” being an exception, Ajay Devgn struggled as well with flops like “Maidaan” and “Auron Me Kaha Dum Tha”.
During this period, relatively younger actors have delivered consistent hits. Rajkummar Rao impressed everyone with “Srikanth” and “Stree 2”. We also witnessed surprise hits like “Munjya” and “Madgaon Express”.
Female actors also took the spotlight this year, with hits like “Crew” and “Article 370” showcasing their power and influence over the audience.
While it may be too early to draw definitive conclusions, it feels like the audience is starting to embrace these new-generation actors as future stars. The year 2024 has given them ample time to build a bond with audiences, similar to the connection that the Khans once enjoyed.
Though the Khans can never truly be replaced, it’s safe to say that younger actors are proving themselves as bankable stars.
With Aamir Khan’s comeback film “Sitare Zameen Par” set for release this Christmas, it will be interesting to see how the audience reacts to his return.
