Let’s talk about the biggest takeaway of 2024 from Bollywood. The industry gave us some big hits but it was more or less seen struggling for any attention from the audiences. But, it could definitely do far better.
Just compare 2024 with 2014 and you will see a far better scope of business.
Anyway, what was the takeaway from the passing year?
“The big names are waiting for one blow.”
They are big, they have reach and stardom but in this age where audiences are exposed to various forms and kinds of content, good is not good enough.
The expectation of people has been increased by a great extent and they are always excited to see something entirely new. Yes, we do realise that it is a very unrealistic and difficult expectation. But, it is an expectation nonetheless.
The industry was not successful in catering it and thus there was a sort of dissatisfaction among the audiences.
Fighter was the first big film of 2024 and it did not do as well as it should have. Both films released on the occasion of Dussehra failed and the year was scarce on big blockbusters.
But, a few films were on the lips of the people all along.
Laapata Ladies, Kill, All We Imagine As Light were the talk of the nation. They may not have a great box office pull but the excitement people showed towards these films is phenomenal compared to the big names.
Santosh and “Girls Will Be Girls” are slowly picking up the buzz.
The takeaway is, that these films which used to be limited to only 17 people are now screaming. People are talking about them and it is an extremely positive change.
There will be a time when these movies will take over the big names in many many aspects other than buzz. Let’s wait to see when that happens.
