Baliphool Welcome To Bastar is an upcoming film in Chattisgarhi language that will be released on 18th October. With no Hindi releases in the week, the film has grabbed the attention of National Cinema Chains like PVR-INOX and will not be limited to local theatres, hence widening its horizon. The film had been in the news for more than a year and finally it passed all the required certifications to be released now.
The film is set in the areas of Bastar, Chattisgarh. The place is often the topic of discussion due to its tribal culture and due to Naxalism. Recently Bastar: The Naxal Story, starring Adah Sharma was released that talked of the same issue. The film starts with the note of cultural appreciation of Bastar and development of a romantic relationship between the lead actors and later talks of the issues of Naxalism and the complex politics of the place.
The film as of now has received 22 national and international film awards, an unthinkable feat by a Chattisgarhi film. And expects a good response from the audience after its release. The film’s trailer has been out, and surprisingly it fails to execute the serious theme it talks about. People have been complaining about several issues with the trailer. First is the bad performance of the actors which alleviates the movie’s quality. The film is technically very unprofessional and the editing, cinematography, visuals etc. do not look promising at all.
The main reason for this lapse is the lack of resources for making a good movie in Chattisgarh. Usually, Chattisgarhi films are made with a very low budget and the industry is one of the least recognised regional cinema industries in India. The viewership only comprises the lower strata of Chattisgarh’s population. This restricts good talent in the place and they either migrate to other industries or face a budget shortage to work in full potential.
The film had a very good theme which it tackled, and had a huge potential. Viewers of the trailer came up with comments like the film is not at par with the contemporary times, people iterated on the fact that good films are suffering in the industry due to lack of resources.
The film was something that could have proved to be a saviour for the industry and had created a national presence for it. But due to lack of resources, it now remains to be just an average regional film.
